FAQs

Will the Half Marathon and 5K be certified?

Yes, this will be a USATF certified half marathon (USATF #AL23038JE), 5K (USATF #AL23039JE) course.

How can I check my registration?

Magic City uses RunSignUp for its registration portal.  To check your registration CLICK HERE to be taken to the RunSignUp Participant List.

What timing system will be used?

MyLaps bib tag timing will be provided.  Half Marathon athletes will receive a gun time and chip time as well as a 10K split time.  5K athletes will receive a gun time and chip time.  1 mile athletes will receive a gun time.  Awards will be given based on Gun Time.

How many participants are allowed in each event?

Half Marathon: 2,000
5K: 1,000

Can I get a refund?

We do not offer refunds for any reason. Those registered for the half marathon can transfer into the 5K but no refund on the difference in prices will be offered or allowed.  Deadline is Wednesday prior to the event by midnight.

How do I become a vendor or sponsor?

What food and drinks will be on the course?

The course will have aid stations approximately every 2 miles.

Water, POWERADE and gels will be served at aid stations.

Please check course maps at packet pickup for locations of aid stations.

Will there be bathrooms on the course?

We will have two (2) port-a-johns at each aid station on the course. Indoor restroom facilities will be available at the start / finish inside Regions Field.

Is there a race-day registration and packet pickup?

Yes, we will have race day registration and packet pickup on the main concourse at Regions from 6AM until 7:30AM on race day for the Half Marathon, 5K and Mile.  NOTE: You can register on-line at any time up until 7:15AM on Race Morning.

Can I wear headphones?

Please note it is unsafe to wear headphones while running. Event organizers will not restrict headphone use and leave it up to the athlete on his/ her ability to follow direction while wearing headphone devices. If you do choose to wear headphones please keep the volume level down so you are able to hear and follow the direction of course volunteers.

Will you have pacers for the Half Marathon?

Yes. Pacers will run at the following paces:

    • 1:40
    • 1:50
    • 2:00
    • 2:15
    • 2:30
    • 2:45
    • 3:00

Is there prize money?

The 2023 half marathon event will offer a prize purse. The breakdown will be as follows:

    • 1st Place Male and Female: $500
    • 2nd Place Male and Female: $400
    • 3rd Place Male and Female: $300
    • 4th Place Male and Female: $200
    • 5th Place Male and Female: $100
What is the course elevation?

Please refer to course maps, but these are as “flat as possible” courses in Birmingham.  NOTE: This does not mean this is a flat course, but the 2023 course is the flattest course yet with less than 600 feet of total elevation gain for the half marathon.  The course record on the half marathon is 1:04:49; the course is fast.  The 5K is a very flat and fast course.

Can someone else run in my place?

No, you are not allowed to hand off bibs for legal and liability reasons.  You MAY transfer bib number to another runner through the RunSignUp website where you registered.  You may defer your entry or gift your entry through the RunSignUp portal.  Deadlines apply for these options.

Where should I park?

Open parking is available throughout Downtown Birmingham.  You can also refer to the Parking Map used by Regions Field for the Birmingham Barons’ games HERE

Are there finisher medals?

Yes all finishers in the half marathon, 5K & mile will receive a finisher medal.

Will there be a bag check on race day?

Yes.  There will be a secure bag check on race day inside Regions Stadium.

What will the weather be like in Birmingham during late November?

According to historical data the average low in November is 40.7F, the average high is 62.3F and the daily average is 51.5F. Perfect for running!

Can I register on race day?

You can register for the Half Marathon, 5K and Mile on race day. Please refer to the Race Registration page for full details.

Are walkers allowed in the race?

You must meet the requirements of the cutoff times which is four (4) hours for the Half. If you walk at an 18 minute per mile pace you will finish in 3 hours and 55 minutes.

Are baby joggers, strollers or pets allowed during the race?

Yes, baby joggers & strollers are allowed during the Half Marathon or 5K. We require all strollers to start in the back of the field.  Also note that you will have to climb stairs to exit the field.  Thus, we highly suggest you leave the strollers at home.

Unfortunately pets are not allowed in Regions Field and thus will not be allowed at the event.

What if I am a physically challenged athlete?

Please e-mail us at jdavis@setupevents.com with your race needs and we will do everything possible to accommodate you and provide you the best race experience possible.

How will the relay work for the half marathon?

The relay is a category in which two people each run 6.5 miles of the course.  For 2023 Mile 6.5 is located at the entrance to the center field tunnel gate on 3rd Ave S.  This address is approximately 1501 3rd Ave South – Birmingham, AL.  Runner #2 will meet Runner #1 at this location.  Both runners are welcome to finish the event along the warning track after Runner #2 has completed the second lap.  The bib number will be exchanged via a race belt (provided).
